DAY 1: Arrival in Nairobi
Arrive at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi. Transfer to your hotel and spend the rest of the day at leisure, preparing for your Lake Turkana adventure.
DAY 2: Nairobi to Samburu National Reserve
Leave Nairobi and drive north to Samburu National Reserve. Enjoy game drives in the reserve, which is home to unique wildlife species like the reticulated giraffe, Grevy's zebra, and Somali ostrich. Camp overnight in Samburu.
DAY 3-4: Samburu National Reserve
Spend two full days exploring Samburu National Reserve. Enjoy game drives, nature walks, and cultural interactions with the local Samburu people. Camp overnight in Samburu.
DAY 5: Samburu to Marsabit National Park
Leave Samburu and drive to Marsabit National Park, a remote and diverse wilderness area. Explore the park on game drives and visit the Marsabit Crater, a volcanic caldera with a beautiful lake. Camp overnight in Marsabit.
DAY 6: Marsabit – Kalacha – North Horr
Continue your journey towards Lake Turkana, driving through scenic landscapes and traditional tribal lands. Arrive at Kalacha, a small town situated along the Chalbi Desert. Camp overnight in Kalacha.
DAY 7: North Horr to Loyangalani
Drive to Loyangalani, a small village on the eastern shore of Lake Turkana. Enjoy the stunning views of the lake and spend the day exploring the local culture and traditions. Camp overnight in Loyangalani.
DAY 8: Lake Turkana Exploration
Spend a full day exploring the beauty of Lake Turkana. Visit Elmolo village, Take a boat trip to view the lake's diverse birdlife and experience the traditional lifestyle of the El Molo tribe. Camp overnight near Lake Turkana.
DAY 9 & 10: Lake Turkana (Loiyangalani) – Ngurunit
The journey will take you through breathtaking landscapes, including the arid beauty. Arrive in Ngurunit and settle into your accommodation, which could be a community-run lodge or a traditional Samburu homestay. Spend two full days immersing yourself in the rich culture and traditions of the Samburu community. Engage in various activities such as: Rock sliding, Village Visits, Explore the village and interact with the locals, learning about their daily lives, traditions, and customs. Traditional Music and Dance: Experience the vibrant music and dance performances by Samburu warriors and women. You can even join in and learn some traditional dance moves. Bush Walks and Nature Trails: Take guided walks with Samburu guides who will share their knowledge of the local flora, fauna, and medicinal plants. Camel Safaris: Embark on camel safaris across the desert, a traditional mode of transport used by the Samburu people. Enjoy the serene landscapes and learn about camel husbandry. Traditional Crafts: Learn about Samburu beadwork, pottery, and other traditional crafts. You can try your hand at creating your own unique pieces under the guidance of local artisans. Cultural Talks: Engage in discussions with local elders who can share stories and insights into Samburu traditions, history, and beliefs.
DAY 11: Ngurunit to Nairobi
Leave Ngurunit and start your journey back to Nairobi. Arrive in Nairobi in the evening and either transfer to your hotel or proceed to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for your departure.
